Do You Need Pipe Lining?

What exactly is pipe lining?
This is a repair technique for pipes that involves the installation of a new sleeve to the inside of an existing drain that is damaged. These repairs also referred to as cured-in-place pipe lining, trenchless or no-dig technology, can be applied to pipes with a diameter of 100mm and more.

Our pipe lining service is an exceptionally successful alternative to going the usual route of digging and refurbishing pipework that is starting to disintegrate. It doesn’t matter how long or bendy the pipes are either, because we can install pipe lining to horizontal and vertical drains, or those which have several bends.

It all depends on the application, as to which no-dig repair option is carried out. Any joining connections must be blanked off if full-length liners are being used. This is no problem at all for us. A robot cutter, with a camera attached at the front, will be used by one of our highly experienced technicians, to open up the connection easily and with perfect precision.

Which materials are suitable for pipe lining?
Pipe lining is perfect for a wide variety of drain materials, including concrete, clay, plastic, vitreous china, pitch fibre, cast iron, or polycarbonate. Kwikflow technicians can also line various kinds of ducting and install patch repairs in lengths from 500mm to 1000mm.

What does pipe lining involve?
Our team will use CCTV survey cameras to examine your pipes thoroughly, to check for, and identify any damaged areas. Once we have diagnosed the problems, we will be able to give you advice as to how these faults can be repaired properly, at a price that is cost-effective to you. As a rule, we advise our clients to opt for our pipe relining services, rather than digging trenches, for the sole purpose of saving them inconvenience, money, and time.

After we have identified the damaged areas of the pipes, we will then, by using specialised, adaptable equipment, prepare the inner surface of the pipe. This activity often needs the use of two things: cutting equipment to get rid of roots, hard objects, and roots, as well as certain robotic cutting technology capable of cutting sideways, to follow all along the pipe lining.

Are there different methods of pipe lining?
Our specialist team uses several different methods for installing pipe lining, with each method being used, depending on the problem we are dealing with at that particular time. Our team is able to adapt solutions to suit the specific requirements of each client.

We usually use either the “inversion” or “drag in” methods for pipes that are more regular in diameter.

With the “drag in” method, the liner is cut to the desired length, then infused with Polyester on-site, and then either dragged through the pipe and then inflated or blown (inverted) and then inflated.

On the other hand, the procedure is a bit different when we use the “inversion” method. With this technique, the liner is turned inside out as it is pushed through the pipe, by using. either air or water pressure to make this happen. The resin cures inside and what you’re left with is a full-length, seamless repair.

A different method altogether is used when we reline pipes of a larger diameter, and usually includes water sluicing and rapid-cure UV installing options.

What are the benefits of pipe lining?
There are several benefits to using pipe lining to repair damaged drains and pipes, some of which include:

• Little to no digging or excavation required.
• It is the ideal solution for pipe issues in hard-to-reach places like beneath roads or underneath building.
• It is a quick and easy repair solution for pipes and drains.
• Can frequently be carried out through manholes or existing access points.
• Pipe lining is perfect for pipes and drains with ongoing issues such as tree root intrusion.
• It can be used to repair pipes and drains made from a wide variety of materials.
• It has a lifespan of up to 50 years.
• Pipe lining is ideal for use under delicate buildings such as heritage properties.
• The new pipe lining creates a strong inner layer inside the old and damaged pipe.
